Nauset Light

Red-and-white Cape Cod lighthouse above the Atlantic at Nauset Light Beach.

Nauset Light is the red-and-white lighthouse most people picture when they think of the Outer Cape. The present tower was built in 1877, moved here from Chatham in 1923, and later shifted back from the eroding cliff to save it from the sea.

The lighthouse stands above Nauset Light Beach, so it is easy to combine a quick look with a walk down to the Atlantic. Public tours run seasonally when volunteers are available. Even when the tower is closed, the view and beach make the stop worthwhile.
