Courthouse Square History Center

The History Center at Courthouse Square gathers the 1839 courthouse, the 1870 sheriff's residence and jail, and the 1840s county clerk's office into a single small museum site, billed as the oldest town square in the Midwest. Indoor exhibits cover Berrien County life from the Potawatomi era through the orchard boom of the early 1900s.

It's a low-key, volunteer-run operation rather than a slick museum, but the buildings themselves are the point. The sheriff's residence is furnished as it would have been in the 1870s, with the jail cells immediately behind the kitchen. Open seasonally; check ahead in winter.
