Warehouse District

The Warehouse District is the converted industrial area immediately west of downtown and immediately south of the North Loop, and the two districts have blurred considerably. The key sites here are the Guthrie Theater on the riverbank — one of the best theatre buildings in America — and the cluster of galleries, bars, and restaurants in the streets between First Avenue and the river.

First Avenue, the famous music venue where Prince played countless times and filmed Purple Rain, sits on the eastern edge of the district. The surrounding blocks on Hennepin and 7th Street were the centre of Minneapolis nightlife for decades and retain much of that energy, with clubs and bars clustered at ground level below older commercial buildings.
