The Delta Blues Museum is the essential first stop in Clarksdale. Housed in a former Illinois Central freight depot, it traces the music from local roots through the artists who carried the Delta sound out into the world.
The exhibits are strongest when they stay close to place: instruments, photographs, recordings, and stories tied to Clarksdale and the surrounding cotton country. Go here before the clubs. The music you hear later will make more sense.
