The Hattiesburg Pocket Museum is a tiny rotating exhibition space in a former alleyway window in downtown Hattiesburg — a miniaturised museum display visible through a street-level window, changing several times a year with new themes and tiny artefacts. It's a micro-institution: the curatorial effort is serious, the scale is deliberately absurd.
The Pocket Museum is worth knowing about for the way it has become a focal point for downtown Hattiesburg's creative scene. Thematic shows have covered everything from local music history to natural history specimens to miniature art. The surrounding block of downtown has several independent galleries, studios, and the music venue area that make up Hattiesburg's small but active arts district. The museum is always viewable (it's a window), always free.
