MKT Railroad Bridge

1932 Pratt-truss lift bridge over the Missouri, repurposed for the Katy Trail

The blue-painted steel truss spanning the Missouri at Boonville started life as a railway bridge for the MKT line in 1932, replacing an earlier crossing. When the railroad was abandoned in the mid-1980s the bridge sat idle, then was rehabilitated for the Katy Trail in the 2010s after a long fight to save it from demolition.

The crossing is now part of the trail, with pedestrian and bike decking, original truss framework, and a vertical lift span (no longer functioning) over the navigation channel. The walk across takes about ten minutes and gives you the best river view in town.
