Amish Farming Community

On rural highways Y and M just outside Bowling Green, a community of around 63 Amish families farms the rolling Pike County countryside in the traditional way — no electricity, no indoor plumbing, horse-drawn equipment, and handmade clothing. The community is welcoming to visitors who approach respectfully, and the cabinet store is well regarded for fine handmade furniture at reasonable prices.

If you drive out this way, go slowly on the county roads — horse-drawn buggies share the lanes with cars, and the roads can be muddy after rain. The Amish prohibit photography of their faces, so point the camera at the landscape, the horses, or the barns rather than the people. The best time to visit is on weekdays during daylight hours when the workshops are open.
