Devils Well is a sinkhole that opens into the roof of a large underground cavern with a permanent lake at the bottom. From the wooden viewing platform you look down a vertical shaft into a chamber the size of a small church, with the still surface of the lake visible thirty metres below. A spotlight illuminates the chamber.
The lake is part of the same groundwater system that feeds Cave Spring on the Current River a mile downstream — dye traces have proven the connection. The water level rises and falls with rainfall, but the chamber itself is permanently underwater.
The site is reached by a short gravel road that branches off Highway KK. The visitor centre is volunteer-run and is open seasonally; the viewing platform itself is open year-round. It is one of the more memorable five-minute stops in the park.
