Pirogue Island State Park protects a low island in the Yellowstone River just outside Miles City. Its short trail network makes it a simple place for a walk, birdwatching, or a break from driving across eastern Montana.
The park is deliberately low-key: expect river cottonwoods, open ground, wildlife, and a few miles of paths rather than developed attractions. Do not cross channels when water is flowing.
