The Nevada Dinner House is the other essential Basque restaurant in Elko, slightly more polished than the Star Hotel but following the same family-style tradition. Soup, salad, bread, beans, and a main course arrive at the table in sequence; the lamb dishes are consistently good, and the oxtail stew when available is worth ordering.
The dining room is comfortable and unpretentious, frequented by locals and regulars who have been eating here for years. It is a better introduction to Basque-Nevada cuisine than any restaurant with a menu, because the format forces you to eat the whole meal rather than navigating a list of unfamiliar dishes.
