Water Street is Henderson's downtown — a compact strip of older commercial buildings that predates the suburban sprawl that surrounds it. The city has invested in revitalizing the area, and it now has a reasonable concentration of locally-owned restaurants, bars, and small shops, along with the Pass Casino (one of the few downtown gambling establishments in the Las Vegas Valley that isn't on the Strip).
The district is modest by national standards but genuinely different in character from the rest of Henderson — you can walk it in 20 minutes and feel like you're in an actual neighbourhood rather than a master-planned subdivision. A handful of cafes and a small arts scene give it some texture. On weekends a farmers market operates in the area.
