Lovelock Cave

Great Basin archaeological cave reached by a dirt-road backcountry byway.

Lovelock Cave is the reason the town deserves more than a fuel stop. Native peoples used the cave for shelter and storage for thousands of years, and early-20th-century excavations recovered remarkable material, including tule duck decoys that became Nevada's state artifact.

The Bureau of Land Management site has a kiosk, signs, a short self-guided trail, and a deck at the cave entrance. The access road is dirt and gravel but generally does not require high clearance in normal conditions.
