Panaca Summit Kilns

Pair of remote charcoal kilns left from the mining era east of Panaca.

The Panaca Summit Kilns are two surviving charcoal kilns east of town, built to feed the mining economy that once shaped this part of Nevada. They are not as famous as the Ward Charcoal Ovens near Ely, but they have the same lonely desert logic: stone, heat, timber, and a boom that moved on.

Go only if you are comfortable with remote desert roads and have checked current access. For travelers who like mining leftovers and empty-country detours, they make Panaca more than a Cathedral Gorge side stop.
