The old Lincoln County Courthouse is Pioche's signature building, a brick 1870s courthouse whose nickname came from decades of cost overruns, refinancing, and local scandal. By the time the debt was finally settled, the building had cost far more than anyone intended.
It stands on Lacour Street above Main Street and looks too substantial for a town this small, which is exactly the point. Pioche once expected to be a rich mining centre, and the courthouse is the most visible proof of that ambition.
