Thompson's Opera House, also known as Brown's Hall or the Gem Theater, is one of Pioche's surviving boomtown buildings. It is a reminder that mining camps were not only saloons and gunfights; they also wanted performance halls, dances, lectures, and a touch of respectability.
The building is most rewarding as part of a walk through town. Its value is cumulative, adding another layer to a main street where the past has not been tidied up too much.
