Dixie Bar

A few hundred yards east of the trading post stands the equally abandoned Dixie Bar, a long stucco roadhouse with a faded mural of a cowboy on the gable end. The Dixie ran as a bar and dance hall from the 1930s until well into the 1980s, when Interstate 40 finally killed the traffic on this stretch of Route 66.

Like the trading post it is private and shuttered, but the exterior — the empty parking lot, the neon-sign skeleton on the roof, the painted Coca-Cola lettering — completes the Budville roadside set. A useful second stop if you have stopped for the first.
