Roswell hosts an Artist-in-Residence Program that has, since 1967, given a year's free studio, housing and stipend to working artists. The Anderson Museum collects the work those artists left behind — over 500 paintings, sculptures, and prints, with at least one piece from every resident of the past 50 years.
The collection is genuinely first-rate: Luis Jiménez, John Hartell, Howard Cook, plus dozens of younger names who passed through. The galleries are spread across a low building near the New Mexico Military Institute. Free admission, but donations welcome. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
