The main reason anyone comes to Roswell, and it delivers exactly what you'd expect. The museum occupies the old Plains Theatre on Main Street and focuses squarely on the 1947 incident when something crashed on a ranch northwest of town. Exhibits walk through the timeline of events, military press releases, witness affidavits, and the subsequent cover-up theories.

Whether you're a true believer or a cheerful skeptic, it's an entertaining hour. The volunteer staff tend to be passionate and happy to talk. The gift shop is predictably stocked with alien kitsch.

A story
On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field's public information officer announced that the military had recovered a 'flying disc' from a nearby ranch. Within hours the Army retracted the statement, saying it had been a weather balloon. The museum was founded in 1991 by Glenn Dennis, a Roswell undertaker who claimed he was contacted by the base to supply small coffins around the time of the incident.
