San Miguel Mission

Historic adobe mission tied to Socorro's Spanish colonial and Piro Pueblo history.

San Miguel Mission is the clearest historic anchor in town. The present adobe church stands on older mission ground, with roots in the Spanish resettlement of Socorro after the long, difficult colonial route through the Jornada del Muerto.

It is a quiet stop rather than a museum, but it gives the town a sense of age that the highway strip does not. Pair it with the plaza nearby before heading out to the larger desert sights.
