One of the most atmospheric of T or C's historic bathhouses, Blackstone occupies a vintage 1930s building in the downtown hot springs district and has been carefully restored to its original character. Private soaking rooms with deep porcelain tubs fed by the natural mineral water make it the choice for those who prefer an indoor, more contemplative soak over the outdoor river views of some competitors.
The mineral water here runs at about 107°F and is rich in sodium, calcium, and magnesium. The bathhouse model — private tubs rented by the half-hour — is how most T or C hot springs have operated since the town's heyday as a health resort in the 1940s and 1950s, when people came from across New Mexico to take the waters for everything from arthritis to exhaustion.
