Saranac River Trail

5-km paved riverside walk and bike path along the Saranac to the lake — Plattsburgh's best urban stroll

Address Trail head at Bridge Street, Plattsburgh
Admission Free

A 5-kilometre paved trail running along both banks of the Saranac River from the eastern edge of the SUNY campus down to Lake Champlain. The trail crosses the river twice on rebuilt railway bridges, passes under several historic stone road bridges, and offers views of trout fishermen, kayakers, and (in autumn) one of the best displays of red and gold leaves in the Champlain Valley.

The eastern end finishes at the lakefront near the Saranac Marina, where you can continue along the lake to the Old Base parade ground. Bikes are allowed; the trail is paved throughout. Most pleasant in the early morning or late afternoon.
