Phelps Mansion is the grandest preserved house from Binghamton's late-19th-century boom years. Built for banker Sherman D. Phelps and designed by Isaac G. Perry, it shows the taste for heavy woodwork, patterned rooms, and public confidence that ran through the city at the time.
Take a tour if one is running. Even from outside, the mansion helps explain why Binghamton's old nickname, Parlor City, still fits better than you might expect.
