Granger Homestead is a quieter stop than Sonnenberg, but it fills in an older layer of Canandaigua. The Federal-style house belonged to Gideon Granger, postmaster general under Jefferson and Madison, and the museum now pairs local history with a substantial carriage collection.
It is most rewarding if you like domestic history, early American architecture, or the practical details of travel before motor cars. The house also gives a useful contrast to the later, grander lake estates nearby.
