Fire Island Lighthouse

Fire Island Lighthouse is the classic western gateway sight on the barrier island. The tower is still an active aid to navigation, and its programs are run by the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society. The climb gives broad views over the dunes, Great South Bay, Robert Moses State Park, and, on clear days, the Manhattan skyline.

The grounds also have an easy nature trail, making this a good first stop before continuing east into Fire Island National Seashore.
