Robert Moses State Park occupies the western end of Fire Island and is one of the easiest ways to reach the barrier island's Atlantic beach by car. Its long oceanfront, dunes, and surf make it a popular day trip from Long Island and New York City.
The park is also the usual starting point for the boardwalk walk to Fire Island Lighthouse. Come early on summer weekends, when parking lots and beach facilities can fill quickly.
