Chelsea Market

Converted Nabisco factory now a dense food hall — the original Oreo biscuit was made here

Chelsea Market occupies a full city block on Ninth Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets, in a former Nabisco biscuit factory where the Oreo was invented in 1912. The interior conversion kept much of the industrial fabric — exposed brick, pipes, water features from reclaimed materials — and the food hall contains fishmongers, butchers, bakers, wine merchants and a dozen restaurants. The Lobster Place and Dickson's Farmstand are the standouts.
