Dimes Square

Informal name for the Canal Street and East Broadway area, a recent focal point for nightlife

Dimes Square is the informal name for the area around Canal Street and East Broadway at the western edge of the Lower East Side, named after the restaurant Dimes. In the early 2020s it became a focal point for a particular strand of downtown New York cultural life — small galleries, natural wine bars, restaurants with long waits and no reservations. The area borders Chinatown and Tribeca and has a pleasantly scrappy streetscape that has so far resisted heavy development.
