Ottendorfer Library

Ottendorfer Library is the oldest continuously operating free lending library in New York. Built in 1884 for the East Village's German-speaking community, its red-brick facade still carries decorative reliefs tied to German cultural life in the old Kleindeutschland neighbourhood.

The building is still a working New York Public Library branch, so visit quietly and treat it as both landmark and public space.
