Long Island City Arts Scene

Dense concentration of contemporary art galleries and studios around Jackson Avenue — the largest outside Manhattan

Long Island City has the largest concentration of artists' studios and contemporary art galleries outside Manhattan, concentrated around Jackson Avenue and the blocks near MoMA PS1. The neighbourhood attracted artists from the 1970s priced out of SoHo and remains working studio space for hundreds of artists alongside commercial galleries. The annual LIC Arts Open in May offers studio visits across several dozen venues simultaneously.
