Lower Manhattan

Colonial-era streets where Wall Street meets the harbour

The southern tip of Manhattan is where it all began — old colonial churches and Federal-era monuments standing in the shadow of glass skyscrapers. Wall Street, the Federal Reserve Bank, the 9/11 Memorial, and South Street Seaport are all within easy walking distance. The oldest streets in the city still follow the irregular paths laid out by Dutch settlers in the 1600s, which is why Lower Manhattan doesn't conform to the grid that governs the rest of Manhattan.
