New Museum

Contemporary art museum in a SANAA-designed stacked-box building on the Bowery since 2007

The New Museum moved to its current Bowery location in 2007 into a building designed by the Japanese firm SANAA — a stack of misaligned rectangular volumes clad in aluminum mesh that is one of the more distinctive pieces of contemporary architecture in lower Manhattan. The museum focuses on contemporary art with a particular interest in work by emerging and under-recognised artists.
