Queensboro Bridge

1909 cantilevered steel bridge connecting Midtown to Long Island City, a great walk or bike crossing

The Queensboro Bridge, also called the 59th Street Bridge, opened in 1909 and connects Midtown Manhattan at 59th Street to Long Island City in Queens. The cantilever design by Gustav Lindenthal is architecturally more ornate than most New York bridges, with decorative steel towers. The pedestrian and cycling path along the south side offers good views of Midtown and the East River. The bridge appears in the Queensboro Bridge scene from The Great Gatsby.
