Reclaimed from dereliction in the late 1980s, Union Square is now one of downtown Manhattan's true hubs. Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday a farmers market rings the park's north and west sides — one of the best in the country, with vendors from across the region selling produce, bread, cider, and fish. The equestrian statue of George Washington at the south end is worth finding.
