Village Vanguard

Jazz club on Seventh Avenue South open since 1935 — Coltrane and Miles Davis recorded here

The Village Vanguard has been presenting jazz in its triangular basement on Seventh Avenue South since 1935. John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk all recorded live albums here; the Monday night Vanguard Jazz Orchestra has held its residency continuously since 1966. The room is small, intimate and acoustically fine. Reservations are strongly advised for weekend sets.
