The Safe Haven Museum tells the story of the nearly one thousand European refugees brought to Oswego during World War II and housed at the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter. It is a small museum, but the subject is rare: the only such refugee shelter in the United States during the war.
Visit it with Fort Ontario, since the museum is housed by the fort grounds and makes the military site feel less like a simple cannon-and-rampart stop.
