The Sanford House, on Ridge Road, is a two-storey Greek Revival farmhouse built in the 1830s by the Sanford family, who were among the earliest settlers of the area. It is one of the small group of pre-Civil-War farmhouses listed on the National Register and is the best-preserved survivor of the period.
The house is privately owned and not open to the public, but it is a good example of the modest, well-proportioned wooden domestic architecture that made it through to the 21st century along this stretch of the Hudson. Combine with a drive past the Asa Stower House further along Ridge Road for a quick tour of the area's early-19th-century building stock.
