Crescent Beach is the island's best-known strand, a north-shore curve of sand looking over Shelter Island Sound. It is more bay beach than surf beach, with calm water and good sunset light. In summer, check parking rules before you drive over; outside the busiest weeks, it is an easy stop between the ferry and the island's villages.
