Vasehenge is exactly what the name suggests: a circle of oversized painted ceramic vases arranged in the manner of Stonehenge, celebrating Zanesville's history as the pottery capital of the United States. The installation sits near the Zanesville Museum of Art and works as both a cheerful public sculpture and a genuine marker of the town's industrial heritage.
The Muskingum Valley was the centre of American art pottery for decades, with McCoy, Roseville, and Weller among the famous names that operated here. Much of that industry has long since closed, but the ceramics tradition left its mark on the town's identity and its museum collection. Vasehenge is a self-aware, affectionate monument to that history — worth a look if you are already visiting the museum or the Y-Bridge nearby.
