Mount Ashland Ski Area

Mount Ashland rises to 2,296 metres at the crest of the Siskiyou Mountains, about 24 kilometres south of Ashland on a spur road off Interstate 5. The ski area is small — 44 runs across 200 acres — but the mountain's position at the southern end of the Cascades means reliable snow from December through April, with no crowds to speak of. On a clear day the summit views reach south into California and north toward Crater Lake.

The mountain is community-owned and non-profit, run by a local association since 1964. Lift tickets cost considerably less than at the big Oregon resorts. There is no on-mountain lodging, but the 25-minute drive from Ashland makes day trips easy.

Beyond skiing, the access road is a popular summer drive and the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the ridge just below the summit.
