Stillwater Covered Bridge

The Stillwater Covered Bridge crosses Big Fishing Creek just south of Benton on the way to the village of Stillwater. Built in 1849, it is one of 23 covered bridges still standing in Columbia County — more than in any other county of Pennsylvania — and uses the Burr arch truss design typical of the region.

The wooden span is still open to vehicles, and you can drive across it slowly (one car at a time). Park at the small lay-by at the eastern end for a few minutes' walk through the bridge and along the creek. The setting, with overhanging trees and the creek running below, is the postcard image of rural Columbia County.
