The South Carolina Botanical Garden is Clemson's easiest recommendation for non-students. The garden covers hundreds of acres of natural landscapes, streams, woodland trails, display beds and outdoor sculpture, so it feels more like a relaxed park than a formal show garden.
It is also a useful way into the campus without starting with football. Go early in warm weather, wear shoes for paths rather than pavements, and leave time for the nearby geology museum.
