NASCAR Hall of Champions at Darlington Raceway

The NASCAR Hall of Champions museum sits at Darlington Raceway on Harry Byrd Highway, about 2 miles east of downtown. The collection displays championship-winning cars from across the sport's history, from the early 1950s through recent seasons, with particular depth around the track's own history as the sport's oldest superspeedway.

The museum is included with raceway tours or available separately. On non-race days it offers a quieter, more contemplative experience than race weekends — you can stand next to the actual cars that won championships and read the history without crowds. The adjacent gift shop leans hard into the "Too Tough to Tame" mythology, which has been one of NASCAR's most durable marketing narratives for 70 years.

A story
The museum was originally named the Joe Weatherly Stock Car Museum after a NASCAR champion who died in a crash at Riverside in 1964. Weatherly was known as the Clown Prince of NASCAR — a talented driver with a reputation for practical jokes and general chaos who won back-to-back championships in 1962 and 1963. The renaming in 2003 came with an expansion, but the original spirit of celebrating the sport's eccentric early days remains.
