Roxy Regional Theatre

The Roxy Regional Theatre is Clarksville's main performing arts venue, housed in a 1942 Art Deco cinema building at 100 Franklin Street in the downtown historic district. The converted theatre stages professional productions year-round: musicals, dramas, Shakespeare, and locally-produced new work. Ticket prices are very reasonable compared to equivalent venues in larger cities.

The building exterior retains much of its original Art Deco character, with a distinctive marquee sign that is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Clarksville streetscape. The theatre also offers stage-craft classes and runs an active educational programme in local schools.

A story
The Roxy building opened in 1942 as a cinema, named for the famous Roxy Theatre in New York. It operated as a movie house for decades before closing in the 1980s. A local arts group took it over in 1983 and converted it to a live theatre; it has operated as the Roxy Regional Theatre ever since, becoming one of the cultural anchors of downtown Clarksville.
