This small replica cabin marks Greeneville's role as capital of the short-lived State of Franklin, an attempt in the 1780s to form a new state west of the Appalachians. The original political experiment failed, but the story gives Greeneville one of the stranger frontier footnotes in Tennessee.
It is a quick stop rather than a full attraction. Its value is highest as part of a downtown walk linking Johnson sites, courthouse square, and old houses.
