Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum grew out of the former Howell Nurseries, and the old stone walls and work buildings give it more texture than a standard municipal garden. The grounds cover 44 acres with display gardens, quiet paths, and views back toward the city.
It is best treated as a slow, low-pressure stop rather than a blockbuster sight. Come for a morning walk, a picnic, or a break from downtown, especially in spring and early summer when the plantings have the most colour.
