World's Fair Park is the green space left behind when Knoxville cleared a swath of downtown to host the 1982 International Energy Exposition. What remained after the fair closed was eleven acres of open lawn, fountains, paths, and the Tennessee Amphitheater — a genuine civic amenity in a city that didn't have much parkland to spare in the centre.
The park anchors the western end of downtown. Farmers' market stalls set up here on summer weekends, and the amphitheater hosts outdoor concerts. The Sunsphere stands at the far end, and the Knoxville Convention Center occupies the site of the original US Pavilion. It is not a grand park, but it functions well as a breathing space between the compact streets of downtown.
