Wedgewood-Houston, or "Wed-Ho" as locals shorten it, is the city's current creative neighbourhood — an old industrial area south of the fairgrounds that has been gradually colonised by artist studios, micro-breweries, galleries, recording studios, and small restaurants. Third Man Records is here, as are Bastion (a tiny, hugely-praised tasting-menu room), Diskin Cider, Yazoo (technically just north), and a constellation of warehouse galleries.
The neighbourhood First Saturday Art Crawl opens the studios and galleries to the public on the first Saturday of each month — free, walkable, and the best way to get a feel for the area. The streets are still gritty in stretches and the change has been uneven; if you have any interest in the city's creative scene rather than its country-music tourist face, this is the area to walk.
