Brenham Heritage Museum

The Brenham Heritage Museum occupies the former Brenham US Post Office, a 1915 neo-classical brick building on the National Register of Historic Places. The collection covers Washington County from the days when nearby Washington-on-the-Brazos was the capital of the Republic of Texas through the German and Wendish settlement of the 1840s and 50s to the modern town.

Permanent exhibits include a working 1879 Silsby steam fire engine, an extensive photographic archive of pre-1920 Brenham and rotating shows on local industries — dairy, cotton, brick-making, brewing. It's a small museum with sharp local focus, more interesting than its size suggests. Open Wednesday to Saturday afternoons; modest admission.
