Monastery of St. Clare Miniature Horse Farm

The Monastery of St. Clare is a small contemplative convent on the eastern edge of Brenham, home to a community of cloistered Poor Clare nuns. The sisters breed and sell miniature horses — registered American Miniature Horse Association stock — from a farm on the monastery grounds.

A small visitor area lets you walk among the paddocks, see the foals at close range, and visit the gift shop run by the sisters (ceramic angels, baked goods, religious items). The chapel is open for visitors who want to attend mass or simply sit quietly. Open afternoons most days; donations welcomed.

A story
A small community of Franciscan Poor Clares moved to the site in the 1980s and took up miniature horse breeding to support themselves — an unusual choice that drew a steady stream of visitors and turned the monastery into a minor Brenham attraction.
