Lubbock Lake Landmark is a quiet archaeological and natural-history preserve at the edge of the city. The draw here is not a single ruin or monument, but the long record of people, animals, water, and climate on the High Plains.
The visitor center explains the excavations, while trails lead through the landscape itself. It is a good corrective to the idea that the plains are empty: this place has been used, watched, and crossed for thousands of years.
